The cosplay contest is one of our most popular events for good reason. We are incredibly excited to have seen the level of Norwegian cosplay grow over the years, and we are doing our best to adapt our cosplay contest to give as many people as possible the chance to shine and show off their creations. Therefore you will be able to choose between 5 different categories when participating in the Banzaicon cosplay contests: Classic, Master, Duo, Performance and our Style contest, for those wearing amazing outfits, OC's or original designs.

In addition you can sign up for the Cosplay Catwalk if you would like to show off your costume on stage without the hassle of competing.

WHAT CATEGORY SHOULD I CHOOSE?

This is entirely your own choice. As a guideline we would recommend that experienced cosplayers, cosplayers who have competed and gotten prizes at contests in the past, and people with education in sewing/design/other types of craft might want to consider the master category. However this is entirely up to you, and if you do not feel you’re ready to compete at the top level you are welcome to join the classic category. Likewise, beginners who are confident in their craft and stage ability are very welcome to compete in the master category.

If you just want to show off on stage a bit with no hassle, go for the catwalk! If you want to do a show without worrying about craftsmanship or pre-judging, choose the performance category! If you want to show off an amazing original design, OC or cool fashion outfit, check out our Style contest!

COSPLAY CATWALK

When: Saturday Max number of participants: 35

This is the category for those who just want to show off their costumes on stage with no hassle. It is open to everyone, costumes can be made or bought, and all you have to do is show up and show off! We aim to make this a low-pressure and chill experience, so there is no judging at all, and no prices. Meetup for the Catwalk is at the Contest Meetup Point 30 minutes before the event. NB! Signups for the Catwalk close when it reaches capacity. This usually happens quickly, and signup at the con is therefore generally not possible.

STYLE CONTEST

When: Sunday
Max number of participants: 20

The style contest is dedicated to anyone with an outfit that is not directly based on a published fictional character. This can include street-fashion from across the globe, any of the various -cores or -punks, original fantasy or sci-fi designs or just about anything else, including originally designed or alternate universe versions of known characters. In short this contest is open to everyone, from cottagecore to cyberpunk and beyond!

The contest is a catwalk where each contestant gets some time on stage to show off their outfit. The music is pre-selected, and contestants will not be able to choose their own track. The judges will look at a combination of design, creativity and stage presence. It does not matter if the outfit/costume is homemade or not, everyone has the chance to win some shiny prices! Please note that, while we do not prohibit regular cosplay (as in, costumes replicating the official art of a character), these entries might not score as high as the original styles and designs that this contest focuses on showcasing.

Meetup for the Style Contest is at the Contest Meetup Point on Sunday, 30 minutes before the event. Signups for the Style Contest close when it reaches capacity. It will be possible to sign up at the con ONLY if there are free spaces left.

COSPLAY CLASSIC

When: Saturday
Max number of participants: 15

This is our traditional cosplay contest. It is open to everyone who wants to try their luck, whether you're a complete beginner or you've got a few cosplays under your belt. Join for a chance to test your skills,r creations, meet amazing people backstage and have a great time!

COSPLAY MASTER

When: Saturday
Max number of contestants: 15

This is the category for those who want to push their cosplay to the next level. To excell here you’ll not only need top-notch craftsmanship skills, but also the ability to put on a spectacular stage performance. The winner of this category will be chosen as the Norwegian representative in next years Nordic Cosplay Championship*!

COSPLAY DUO

When: Saturday
Max number of contestants: 10 teams.

In this category, two cosplayers enter as a team. They may have made their own costumes separately or as a collaboration, and they both come together to show them off on stage!

COSPLAY PERFORMANCE

When: Sunday
Max number of contestants: 15 people or groups.

This contest has nothing to do with craftsmanship and everything to do with your show! It can be funny or dramatic, creative and full of talent, witty, emotional or just plain ridiculous, whatever you choose, the aim of this contest is to entertain!

You can participate alone or as part of a group, and there are no requirements for self-made costumes, nor is there any pre-judging.

NOTE

*People who are not from Norway are very welcome to enter the contest in all categories, and will have an equal chance at winning the first place. Should this happen in the master category they will still get the prize, however the task of representing Norway in the NCC must go to a Norwegian citizen or resident, in this case the contestant in second place.
